The best team won the game last night but it could have been closer. Two third down passes were dropped by Oregon in the early minutes of the first quarter that could have made a difference. I say could because Ohio State didn't have much trouble moving the ball against the Oregon defense. In fact the Oregon defense didn't stop Ohio State at all. Ohio State stopped themselves or the score could have been worse. Urban Meyer is a great coach. To think that he lost his first and second string quarterback then finishes against the three toughest teams they've played all season with a third stinger and they win all the games impressively is quite a coaching feat. His offensive line coach needs to be congratulated on doing a superb job. They dominated the game and opened some holes that even I could have made yardage on. In fact the defensive line coach also did a good job. He kept fresh troops in the game and stopped the Oregon offense when it counted. Two or three times they turned back the Ducks in the red zone. I thought the Oregon defensive coach never made an adjustment for the trap play that Ohio State kept coming back to when they needed yardage. The defense couldn't stop the Buckeyes on third or fourth down.
I didn't think it was an exceptionally well officiated game. I saw a lot of holding by the Ohio State linemen that should have been called. They also missed a pass interference call on a third down play that might have given the Ducks a little momentum. This was right after an Oregon defensive back had been called for the same thing.
After saying if only two receivers would have caught the ball on third down and a pass interference call not made I don't think it would have made a difference in the long run. Ohio State was just too good for Oregon. I hadn't watched Ohio State all season but I believe they just kept getting better and better. Next year it looks like the two best teams will be the Buckeyes and TCU.
