I think I've got the video format down so I can post them on the blog.  Today I'm going to post two of them.  You don't always get the fish all the way to the net.  Sometimes the fish will "spit the hook".  I make it easier for them by using barbless hooks.  By using barbless hooks it makes it much easier to get the hooks out of their mouths so they don't spend a lot of time out of the water before being released.

This video would have been just a little better if I'd turned the camera on about a second or two earlier.  It would have shown the fish taking the fly.  I have tried several times to just turn the camera on and wait until the fly is taken by a rising fish but so far I just have a video of the water and not a hooked fish.  I'll keep trying to improve my videos.

I probably shouldn't write this next part but you know me I'll do it anyway.  As I fish I do take some time to watch other fishermen/women.  Being an ex-teacher and coach I want to give some of them instructions.  Yesterday I watched a man try to net a fish.  It took him forever.  Every time he reached out his net to get the fish, the fish would turn and swim away from him.  All he had to do was raise his rod and the fish would have been coming to the net instead going in the opposite direction.  The other day I saw a guy lose a hooked fish because he let the rod tip drop.  I remember my guide in Xcalek tell me over and over to keep the rod tip up so I could land my one and only Permit. (see picture below)  I've seen many fly fishers that need tips on casting.  They may be beginners but I'd like to give them all a tip.  They should seek out a fly fishing club where they live.  They could get some instructions.  At our club in Kerrville we will help anyone with casting instruction before our meetings.
