I told you yesterday how I felt about the dilemma the immigration situation.  I didn't get into why I think the most important thing to be done is to build a barrier to keep out all the people that want to get into the U.S. illegally.  I don't think we can afford to pay for the influx of millions of new people.  There are already too many people going hungry in this country.  For some, it's their own fault while others strive to put food on the table and barely eke out a living.  Can we afford to pay what it will take to educate and provide health care for the new arrivals?  I don't think we can as we can't even pay off our national debt now.  What is it up to now? 18 to 20 trillion dollars?

There are a couple of things I'd like to see done but will never be done because to me they make too much sense.  One thing we could do is get out of the United Nations.  We carry the big financial load just to be demeaned by other countries.  Have we ever benefited from anything the UN has done?  Another thing we could do to provide money for ourselves is to do away with foreign aid.  Just look at the money we spend.  For what?  Does it ever reach the people of these countries or does it end up in the pockets of the ruling forces?  We could use the money we waste on countries that hate us.

Now to what's really important.  My picks were terrible this week.  I did pick two games that I really felt confident about.  Arkansas routed Ole Miss and Louisville hung on to defeat Notre Dame. However I really blew it with picking USC , Tennessee and Oregon State.  I went 5-5 so the pros will determine once again whether or not I'll end up getting more right than not.  Right now my top six teams are Alabama, Oregon, Florida State, TCU, Baylor and Miss State.  Ohio State had trouble with a 3-8 Indiana team Saturday.

People are already calling for the playoffs to be among the top 8 teams not 4.  It makes sense to me.  This year I could see Florida State, Baylor, TCU,  Ohio State (or the winner of the Big 10), Oregon, UCLA,  Alabama, Miss State.   I hope they go to eight teams soon.
