I've got to make some comments about the football selection committee. I know it was a hard decision to come up with their final four teams. What I don't like is punishing a team for their conference not having a playoff game. It's not the kids fault that the conference doesn't have one. Either Baylor or TCU should have been in the playoffs. Take your pick. Oh wait a second, if we move Ohio State in we won't have to decide between the two Big 12 teams. Let's see the committee ranked TCU third, then TCU won 55-3 and it could have been in the sixties except Coach Patterson had the quarterback take a knee instead of trying to score from the one or two yardline. So now let's drop them all the way back to sixth after winning. Huh? The playoffs should be eight teams next year.
Another thing I disagree with is the committee saying which teams play in the first round. That selection is all subjective. Why not select the teams and then draw for your opponents. That's fair and it takes the human influence out of the pairings. If you're the best team you should be able to defeat whomever you're matched up with in the first round. Geography should have nothing to do with where a team plays as they usually arrive 2 to 3 weeks before a bowl game.
The one thing I do like that came out of the committee meeting is the pairings of the bowl games. There should be a couple of real good games to watch. The committee pair Baylor and Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl. TCU meets Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl. Miss State takes on Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl and Boise State plays Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl. It looks like four good ball games to watch. I'm hoping both TCU and Baylor win their games. One meets a Big Ten team while the other plays a SEC west team. It's a chance to improve the Conference's position in the eyes of fans throughout the country is they both could win.
I don't understand why the Cleveland Browns don't play Johnny Manziel. Brian Hoyer can't lead the team to score touchdowns. He has thrown for 11 TDs while throwing 12 interceptions. He isn't very good. They should have won the ball game yesterday. Their defense played great against one of the best offenses in the league. The Browns intercepted a pass and ran it back to about the 25 yard line. Great starting field position. They had to settle for a field goal. That cost them the game and now they are in dead last in the conference but are still alive to win it. Make the change. Put Johnny in there, you have nothing to lose.
