It is cold this morning.  I got up earlier than I usually do and the temperature was 46.  It's still cold two hours later.  Needless to say I turned the heater on.  I'm still not warm yet.  These fifth wheels don't have a lot of insulation.  But it will get up into the low 80's today and that's hot up here.  A 30+ swing in temperature today.  I guess I shouldn't complain I could be home where there is a cold spell and the temperatures are in the low 90's.

I'm not going fishing this morning.  I went yesterday and it was a tough day.  Some fish were rising early to take midges.  One of the fish I caught chewed up my last fly that was working.  After that I went through a number of flies trying to see what the fish were taking.  I finally put on a poor imitation (I caught fish with it so maybe it wasn't a poor one) of a damsel fly nymph and caught a couple more.  It was not an easy day.  The lake is getting full of weeds and my favorite spot isn't nearly as productive as it used to be.  It seems as though all the lakes and reservoirs that I fish are getting too many weeds.  The Colorado Fish and Game Department (if that's what it's called here) need to do something about the weeds.

Crystal Lake three or four years ago was a dream fishery.  One day I caught quite a few fish (double digit amount) which included a large Brook, a German Brown, a Rainbow, a cut-bow and a cutthroat.  The last couple of years I've caught mostly rainbows.
Here a couple of examples of fish I've caught in the past.  I haven't come close to catching one of this size this year.  I used to catch in the double digits most days but this year it's been 6 to 8 on a good day.  I also know that Ray hasn't had near the fishing experience at Spinney or Eleven Mile reservoirs that he used to have.

Something needs to be done. Since I'm not fishing today it will be five days in a row without wetting a line.  Bridge tomorrow, trip to Silverthorne Friday and then the weekend.  It might be good because the moon is on it's way to a full moon.  I think the full moon affects the daytime fishing.  That's not based on any science.  It's a handy excuse if I don't catch any fish.
